FAA and Homeland Security inspections are on the rise. And, hazmat shipments are under even greater scrutiny. Most air carriers will only accept hazardous material shipments prepared according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) rules. In addition, U.S. DOT and IATA require training documentation for all hazmat employees.
Learn the mandatory rules you must know for preparing and shipping your hazardous materials by air at this one-day workshop. Building on your existing 49 CFR training*, you'll learn how to navigate the IATA DGR, your additional air shipping responsibilities, and how 49 CFR and IATA rules work together.
What You'll Learn:
- IATA vs. 49 CFR: Applicability and jurisdiction. Regulatory structure and key definitions. Additional responsibilities.
- Classification and Identification: IATA's "List of Dangerous Goods" and hazard class variations. Selecting proper shipping names.
- Air Packing Standards: IATA packing instructions. Special provisions. Rules for limited and excepted small quantities. Quantity limits "Q."
- Marking and Labeling: IATA requirements and variations. Special handling labels and operator variations.
- Air shipment Documentation: The Shipper's Declaration Form.
- State and Operator Variations: Additional country-specific mandates, plus airline requirements.
