Shippers must ensure compliance with the U.S. DOT Hazardous Material Regulations for ground transport. In addition, the DOT requires that medical waste shippers receive general awareness, security awareness, and function-specific training (49 CFR 172.704). With enforcement increasing, and fines for non-compliance now $55,000 per day, per violation, it is critical that shippers of regulated medical waste receive comprehensive training on the DOT rules.
