Failing to properly prepare or label a hazmat shipment can result in serious injuries and incidents during the cycle of transportation. The U.S. DOT requires training for all employees involved with packaging who can affect the safe transport of hazardous materials. Civil penalties for hazmat violations are now up to $50,000 per day, per incident, and $100,000 per day, per incident if the incident results in serious injury, illness, death, or property damage.
