Transport Canada Releases New Edition of Standard TP 14850 for Small Containers

Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate this month released proposed text of its third edition of Standard TP 14850 Small Containers for Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Classes 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9.

According to the Transport Canada website, highlights of the proposed revision of TP 14850 include:

Improved alignment with the 19^th edition UN Model Regulations for shipping dangerous goods (“the Orange Book”)
Updated the DG packing instructions
New requirements for DG container re-testing
A new conditional exemption for the use of plastic drums and jerricans beyond 60 months of the date of manufacture; and
Clarified rules for transporting dangerous goods waste

Transport Canada is now seeking comments for its third edition of TP 14850. Comments are due by May 31, 2017.
