Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) – The IHMM no longer issues pre-approval of training courses for CHMM continuing maintenance points. According to the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Recertification Handbook, any workshop or online training in an appropriate subject area (managing the risks of hazardous materials, regulatory compliance, etc.) that includes CEU’s and a certificate may be counted towards IHMM continuing education requriements.
Board of Certified Safety Professionals(BCSP) – While the BCSP does not pre-approve continuing education courses. Many of Lion Technology’s environmental, workplace safety, and transportation training programs may qualify as safety-related for the BCSP. If the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) determines that a Lion course qualifies, BCSP guidelines indicate that 1 day of training, approximately 8 CEU’s, equals 1 COC maintenance point.
The responsibility falls to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to demonstrate that any continued education meets the BCSP standards for being safety-related. The BCSP considers a topic safety-related if it is covered on the CSP examination. According to the BCSP Examinations Blueprint, the examination includes Safety, Health, and Environmental Management, Engineering, Information Management and Communications, and Professional Conduct and Ethics.
