Oil Field Explosion Injures Three Workers, $467K in Penalties Issued

OSHA issued citations to two energy companies following an explosion on November 4, 2021, at an oil drilling site near Grassy Butte, ND that left one worker permanently disabled and two severely injured. Workers were assembling a blasting cap on a perforating gun when the perforating gun detonated, releasing shrapnel and other debris.

In the wake of devastating flooding and disruption of industrial operations caused by Hurricane Harvey, the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) has issued a Safety Alert for petrochemical facilities in Texas that will restart operations in the coming weeks and months.

EPA Stays Clean Air Act NSPS Final Rule for Oil and Gas Sector

As promised in a letter from Administrator Scott Pruitt in April this year, US EPA today announced it will stay for three months—and ultimately reconsider—a Final Rule that set new Clean Air Act emissions requirements for oil and gas well and compression station sites.

PHMSA Extends Comment Period for Crude Oil Volatility Proposal

The public comment period for this ANPRM was set to end on March 20—but has now been extended for an additional 60 days, in part due to requests from major industry stakeholders including the American Petroleum Institute. Comments on this potential crude oil rulemaking are now due before May 19, 2017.
