Rhode Island recently added a new coronavirus training requirement to its
Safe Activities By Covered Entities During the COVID-19 Emergency standards. Under this new requirement, all employees must be trained “to follow the standards and requirement in the
Safe Activities standards.
The
Safe Activities By Covered Entities During the COVID-19 Emergency standards (216-RICR-50-15-7.4.1(A)(1)(i)) outlines how businesses and organizations can safely resume their activities, if possible, during the ongoing pandemic.
COVID-19 training for workers may include (but is not limited to):
- How to maintain physical distancing between coworkers and customers;
- Proper face covering etiquette (i.e., what is a face covering, when to wear one, and how to wear one);
- How to clean and disinfect the workplace;
- Enforcing and maintain capacity limits;
- Health screening protocols; and
- What to do is an employee is exhibiting symptoms
Any new employees must also be trained upon hiring. These requirements shall remain in effect until September 5, 2020 unless renewed.

COVID-19 Safety Awareness Online Training
This week, Lion launched the
COVID-19 Employee Safety Awareness Online Course to help US workplaces re-open safely. As facilities nationwide begin to re-open, it is crucial that employees know how to protect themselves and their co-workers from exposure to COVID-19.
The course prepares employees to:
- Recognize signs, symptoms, and risk factors for COVID-19
- Describe how the COVID-19 disease is transmitted
- Follow recommended hygiene and work protocols to prevent exposure
- Properly use and care for PPE and face coverings, when required
The course is designed to help employers nationwide satisfy COVID-19 employee awareness and training requirements now in place in many states.
