Posted on 6/1/2021 by Lion Technology Inc.

Lion Technology’s DOT and IATA hazmat training workshops return to Charlotte, NC on August 10—12! Join us to develop a step-by-step process to safely prepare and offer hazmat shipments, by ground and air, in full compliance with the latest 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) and the 2021 IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).

Lion instructors are thrilled to get back in the classroom and connect with new and returning hazardous materials professionals. When in-person DOT hazmat training returns to Charlotte, Lion will adhere to all Federal, State, and local protocols to protect student health and safety.

Who Needs DOT Hazmat Training?

US DOT requires hazmat training for all “hazmat employees,” defined in the HMR as anyone whose actions can directly affect the safe transportation of hazardous materials (49 CFR 171.8).

For new hazmat employees, DOT requires training within 90 days of hire or assignment. Recurrent hazmat training is required at least once every three years (49 CFR 172.704).

Training to Simplify Hazmat Compliance

At the Charlotte DOT and IATA workshops, collaborate and learn with other hazmat shippers during three days of dynamic, interactive learning. Over 200,000 Lion students trust Lion for hazmat training classes because our instructors, curriculum, and resource materials are the best in the industry.

At the two-day DOT Hazmat Ground Shipper Certification Workshop in Charlotte, we will cover mandated training elements for all hazmat employees: General awareness, security awareness, and function-specific hazmat training. If you ship hazmat by air, stay for the Hazmat Air Shipper Certification Workshop on day 3 to learn what you need to know to offer hazmat to major air carriers—including UPS, FedEx and others—under the IATA DGR.

Why Attend Hazmat Training in Charlotte?

Why do EH&S pros consistently say that Lion’s hazmat workshops are the best? Over 200,000 professionals rely on Lion workshops because our instructors and course materials provide an unmatched learning experience. Lion Technology training has been the gold standard in the regulatory compliance industry for more than 40 years.

Lion instructors have credentials as educators and real-life experience in diverse industries and a wide variety of businesses—from “Mom and Pop” entities to Fortune 100 companies. Our talented instructors will educate, empower, and entertain you while you learn – and do everything they can to give you a positive workshop experience.

Home to the NBA’s Hornets, Charlotte is a fabulous city to visit to attend hazmat training. When British General Cornwallis marched on Charlotte during the American Revolution, his army was met by strong opposition from the locals and retreated in short order. It led Cornwallis to call Charlotte a “hornet’s nest of rebellion.”

You know what really stings? Financial penalties for noncompliance with domestic or international hazmat regulations.

Failure to provide hazmat training for employees can subject your site to a minimum civil penalty of $508 per employee, per day. DOT recently increased civil penalties for typical hazmat shipping violations to a maximum of $84,425 per day, per violation. Violations that result in severe injury, death, or substantial property damage are even more expensive.
