Breaking Down EPA’s New Pesticide Applicator Requirements
EPA's new pesticide applicator certification requirements were initially set to take effect a few weeks ago, but since January, EPA has delayed the effective date twice—first until March 21, 2017 and now until May 22, 2017. Delays aside, the Final Rule will take effect eventually, so EHS managers responsible for FIFRA compliance should know what’s in it. Let’s take a look.

In an executive order issued on January 20, the President of the US directed Federal agencies to delay the effective date of new regulations for sixty days. Sixty days later, US EPA has elected to further delay the implementation date for certain new rules.

In the Federal Register on January 4, 2017, US EPA published a Final Rule to update the certification requirements for applicators of restricted-use pesticides (RUPs) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

EPA Revises Farm Worker Protection Standards
On September 28, 2015, US EPA announced revised worker protection standards for farm workers exposed to pesticides on the job. The new standards will apply to agricultural workers who perform certain labor tasks in pesticide-treated crops and pesticide handlers who mix, load, and apply pesticides. How to Register Pesticides Under FIFRA
