EPA Updates on Vinyl Chloride and PV29 Risk Evaluations

Update 03/04/25: US EPA is extending/re-opening the comment periods for two TSCA risk management actions—a Draft Scope for evaluating the risks of vinyl chloride and a proposed rule that creates worker protections for certain uses of PV29.

Update: Vinyl chloride and four other chemicals used in plastics, PVC, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and more are officially on the path to have their production, distribution, and use restricted or prohibited under TSCA.

Hazmat Rail Cars Carrying Vinyl Chloride Derail in Ohio

Update: On Monday, February 6, emergency responders conducted controlled venting and incineration of vinyl chloride from five of the derailed cars to prevent a potentially devastating explosion.
