Maine Becomes First State to Enact Broad PFAS Ban

On July 2, Maine passed a sweeping ban on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in all products by 2030. The ban would affect a wide range of consumer products from cosmetics, dental floss, and cookware, to guitar strings, fire foams, and food packaging.

Maine Paper Mill Explosion Results in Zero Injuries

A paper mill in Jay, Maine erupted in black smoke on April 15, resulting in extensive damage to the facility but no injuries. Although State investigators reached an initial conclusion that chemicals were involved, the investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing.

In this week's Roundup, an oil and natural gas company pays at least $440,000 to resolve alleged Clean Air Act violations at their Maine petroleum tank farm.
