PHMSA Announces Annual Hazmat R&D Forum

Posted on 4/30/2018 by Roger Marks

DOT-HQ-FULL.jpgThe US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), along with the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS), announced its annual public Research and Development Forum to be held in Washington, DC on May 16–17.

The DOT Hazmat Shipper Certification Workshop will prepare you to achieve and maintain compliance with the 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Regulations. In June, join us in Houston, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Cincinnati.

During the R&D Forum, regulators and stakeholders will discuss current and future research projects in hazardous materials safety, including:

  • Characterization and transportation of energetic materials;
  • Safe transport of energy products;
  • Containment and transportation of compressed gases; and
  • Safe packaging and transportation of “charge storage devices.”
DOT also plans to focus on a 2017 research report completed by the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board titled Safely Transporting Hazardous Liquids and Gases in a Changing US Energy Landscape (available for free).

A conference call and livestream will be available, PHMSA says. Information about how to register for the in-person forum or the conference call will be posted on PHMSA’s R&D Meetings and Events page

The May 16–17 Forum will be held at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Boardroom and Conference Center, 420 10th St. SW, Washington, DC.
