EPA Increases Penalties for Environmental Noncompliance

Posted on 1/12/2022 by Roger Marks

US EPA increased its maximum monetary civil penalties for violations of air, water, chemical, and hazardous waste programs on January 12, 2022. The Final Rule increases the maximum penalty amounts to keep pace with inflation, an annual occurrence since 2015.

When civil penalties rise, so does the value of environmental compliance. While typical environmental violations don't result in maximum penalties, these figures will guide EPA's enforcement decisions in the new year. The larger penalty amounts shown below will apply to environmental violations that occurred after November 2, 2015, for which penalties are assessed on or after January 12, 2022.

Updated EPA Civil Penalties

Civil penalty figures are current as of January 12, 2022. EPA assesses civil penalties on a per day, per violation basis.

We have a very busy work schedule and using Lion enables us to take the course at our own time. It makes it easy for me to schedule my employees' training.

Given the choice, I would do all coursework this way. In-person courses go very fast without the opportunity to pause or repeat anything.

Our instructor was very dynamic and kept everyone's interest. Hazmat shipping can be a dry, complicated topic but I was engaged the entire time.
