NMFTA Updates Bill of Lading Standards
New standards for Bills of Lading (BOL) used in ground transportation of less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments took effect on August 13, 2016. They affect the Uniform Bill of Lading, the Straight Bill of Lading, and the Straight BOL-Short Form. US shippers and carriers should review the updated requirements, which are found in Supplement 2 of the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) version NMF 100-AP.

PHMSA and OSHA Issue GHS Guidance for Bulk Chemical Shippers
US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and OSHA recently issued a joint guidance document to help industry comply with overlapping hazard communication, or “HazCom,” rules for chemicals in the workplace and in transportation.

Defective Lithium Batteries Lead to Worldwide Smartphone Recall for Samsung
Early this month, Samsung issued a worldwide recall for all of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones sold to date. Dozens of customers have now reported incidents of the new smartphone bursting into flames, leading to concerns about the lithium batteries used in the devices.
