NJDEP Urges EPA to List Lower Hackensack River as Superfund Site

On July 23, NJDEP wrote a letter to EPA in an effort to resume plans to list Lower Hackensack River as a Federal Superfund site. The 23-mile section would be the first NJ river to receive the designation under CERCLA.

CSB Investigates Illinois Chemical Factory Explosion

[UPDATE 06/22/21] CSB deployed two members of its leadership team to the explosion site on June 21. At the site, they met with company respresentatives, on-site Federal and local emergency responders, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff, and Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) investigators to discuss the incident further.

Vermont Bans PFAS from Food Packaging and More

On May 18, Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed legislation into law that would effectively prohibit the sale of certain products containing PFAS. The legislation will ban these “Forever Chemicals” from food packaging, ski wax, firefighting foams, carpets, rugs, and aftermarket stain and water-resistant treatments.
