NJDEP Urges EPA to List Lower Hackensack River as Superfund Site

On July 23, NJDEP wrote a letter to EPA in an effort to resume plans to list Lower Hackensack River as a Federal Superfund site. The 23-mile section would be the first NJ river to receive the designation under CERCLA.

Gas Company Pays $10M to Resolve NJ Superfund Site Claims

An industrial gas company is set to pay $10 million to settle Superfund claims at a contaminated industrial site in Linden, NJ. The consent decree, filed in Federal court on October 28, outlines how the funds will be used to clean the LCP Superfund site and recoup response costs already incurred by EPA.

COVID-19 Safety Requirements for NJ Businesses

On October 28, Governor Phil Murphy issued Executive Order (EO) 192 to establish a set of minimum coronavirus safety standards that employers in the Garden State must adhere to in absence of Federal OSHA safety standards. The EO goes into effect at 6:00 am on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

NJ Business Owner Faces Prison Time Plus $4.2M Fine for Haz Waste Violations

Earlier this month, a New Jersey business owner was ordered to pay $4.2 million in restitution and sentenced to 30 days in prison to resolve Federal hazardous waste violations. In addition, the business owner is required to complete 30 days of house arrest and three years of probation.
