Additional HAZWOPER training required

General site workers must complete 40 hours of initial HAZWOPER training and complete a minimum of three days of actual field experience under direct supervision of a trained, experienced supervisor.

This course is designed to help satisfy the 40-hour training requirement only and does not include hands-on training on equipment or PPE that personnel may need to begin work at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

This 16 hour HAZWOPER training provides the additional hours of training needed to "upgrade" an employee from an occassional site worker to a general site worker.

To "upgrade" from 24 hour to 40 hour HAZWOPER training, the employee must have already completed 24 hours of training required for "occassional site workers" per 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(ii).
