Who should take this 16 hour HAZWOPER training course?
16 hours of additional HAZWOPER training are required for occassional site workers at hazardous waste cleanup sites who become general site workers, or who are required to wear respirators (29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(iv)). Examples of general site workers include equipment operators, general laborers, and supervisors.
Additional HAZWOPER Training Required
General site workers must complete 40 hours of initial HAZWOPER training and complete a minimum of three days of actual field experience under direct supervision of a trained, experienced supervisor.
This 16-hour course, in combination with the 24 Hour HAZWOPER course for occassional site workers, is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement only. The course does not include hands-on training on equipment that employees may need to begin work at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
