This course provides required safety training for employees who handle lithium batteries in the workplace, including "hazmat employees" who package, mark, label, load, unload, handle or otherwise prepare lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries for transport.

Under OSHA’s General Duty Clause, employers must protect employees from all known workplace hazards. US DOT's Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) require safety training for all "hazmat employees" who classify, name, package, mark, label, load, or unload shipments of lithium batteries.

Initial DOT hazmat training is required within 90 days of an employee's start date. DOT hazmat training, including safety training, must be repeated at least once every three years (49 CFR 172.704(c)(2)).
