US DOT PHMSA’s Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS) will host a public research and development roundtable in Washington, D.C. on October 24.OHMS provided a list of areas of particular interest for the upcoming meeting, which includes:
- Development of new standards for bulk and non-bulk packaging;
- Improvements to materials and design for hazardous materials packaging;
- Self-classification of hazardous materials and/or articles;
- Improvements to the North American Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG);
- Charge storage device transportation safety; and
- Innovative technologies to improve hazmat transportation safety.

Updated National Hazmat Route Registry
On September 24, 2019 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a notice of revisions to the National Hazardous Materials Route Registry (NHMRR).The Route Registry is a listing of all restricted roadways and preferred highway routes for hazardous materials transportation in the US.
