OSHA Extends Beryllium Compliance Dates for Certain General Industry Ancillary Provisions

OSHA has published a Final Rule to extend the compliance dates for “certain ancillary requirements” of its beryllium exposure worker protections issued in January 2017. The compliance deadline for ancillary provisions—including requirements for personal protective equipment and clothing, hazard communication, and recordkeeping—is now December 12, 2018.

OSHA Releases Employer Guidance in Advance of Safe + Sound Week

Safe + Sound Week takes place from August 13–19 this year. The event is a combined effort of OSHA and safety organizations, including the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the National Safety Council (NSC).

Due July 1: Employers Must Submit OSHA Form 300A Data Electronically

By July 1, 2018 (this Sunday), some employers must electronically submit OSHA Form 300A using the Agency’s new online Injury Tracking Application. Only information from employers’ 2017 OSHA Form 300A is due.

In Effect Now: OSHA Will Help Employers Comply with New Crystalline Silica Standard

In a memo to Regional OSHA Administrators regarding the new permissible exposure limit (PEL) standards for respirable crystalline silica, the Agency stated its plan to “assist employers who are making good-faith efforts to meet the new standard’s requirements.”

OSHA published a Direct Final Rule in the Federal Register on May 7, 2018 to make clarifying amendments to its new beryllium exposure worker protections finalized in January 2017.

According to OSHA’s inspection report, the Agency uncovered fourteen violations of OSHA’s safety standards, including three willful violations and eleven serious violations.

OSHA Rules for Hazards in Healthcare

BLS reported that in 2016 there were 552,600 non-fatal injuries and illnesses in the healthcare sector. This topped the list, with manufacturing coming in second at 410,500.
