Beef Company Agrees to Develop Infectious Disease Preparedness Plan

A food company has agreed to develop an infectious disease preparedness plan for seven of its meat-processing facilities. Following inspections in April and May 2020, OSHA cited the company for failing to protect workers from infectious disease hazards and issued a $14,502 penalty.

Oil Field Explosion Injures Three Workers, $467K in Penalties Issued

OSHA issued citations to two energy companies following an explosion on November 4, 2021, at an oil drilling site near Grassy Butte, ND that left one worker permanently disabled and two severely injured. Workers were assembling a blasting cap on a perforating gun when the perforating gun detonated, releasing shrapnel and other debris.

OSHA Recommends Safety Improvements After Warehouse Collapse

On April 26, OSHA issued a letter to an online retailer asking the company to improve its emergency severe weather procedures following a warehouse collapse in Edwardsville, IL. After a Category 3 tornado struck the company warehouse on December 10, 2021, six contractors suffered fatal injuries and another was critically wounded.

Last month, OSHA issued citations against a Massachusetts manufacturer for alleged lockout/tagout violations related to an incident that left one employee with severe burns.

OSHA To Cite Employers for Injury Reporting Failures

When OSHA begins a new inspection this year, the agency will check whether the employer “may have failed” to submit required injury and illness data. If yes, OSHA will cite the employer for failure to report.

Virginia Considers COVID-19 Safety Standard Repeal

Virginia's Safety and Health Codes Board voted unanimously to revoke the state's workplace COVID-19 health and safety standard on March 21. The revocation notice appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch this week.

Oregon OSHA Proposes Heat Illness Prevention Rule

To better protect workers in the state from climate-related hazards, Oregon OSHA proposed requirements for employers concerning heat illness prevention. The announcement comes shortly after US OSHA announced its own plans to create a Federal standard for occupational heat exposure safety.
