TSCA Update: Revised Chemical Risk Determinations

Update April 2024: Part 2 of EPA's risk evaluation for asbestos addresses legacy uses and related disposals. EPA is required by a consent order to finalize Part 2 before 12/01/24. A draft is available for review.

New TSCA Restrictions for Asbestos Proposed

Update: US EPA is extending the comment period on a proposed TSCA rulemaking to ban ongoing uses of asbestos. EPA will now accept comments until July 13, 2022.

Final TSCA Risk Eval for HBCD Now Available

US EPA released a final TSCA chemical risk evaluation for a class of flame retardants that include hexabromocyclododecane or HBCD.

EPA Completes TSCA Risk Eval for 1-BP

US EPA recently completed its risk evaluation for 1-bromopropane (1-BP) required under the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act or LCSA, which amended TSCA.

Now Final: 20 High-Priority Chemicals for TSCA Risk Evals

On December 20, US EPA made final designations for its first twenty High-Priority chemical substances scheduled for risk evaluations under the amended Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

EPA Initiates TSCA Chemical Prioritization

US EPA has kicked off its prioritization process for performing risk evaluations of forty chemical substances, as required under the amended Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). In the Federal Register on March 21, EPA posed a Notice to inform stakeholders of the chemicals up for possible review.

TSCA Inventory Update: 40,655 Chemicals Active in US Market

EPA's February 2019 update to the TSCA inventory shows that 86,228 total chemicals make up the current TSCA inventory. Of those, 40,655 chemical substances are active in commerce.
