In an effort to "minimize the burden on small businesses and increase prompt hazard abatement," OSHA has updated its procedures for calculating and assessing penalties for violations of workplace health and safety Standards.

OSHA Increases Civil Penalties with Final Rule

Effective January 15, 2025, OSHA published a Final Rule to increase civil penalty amounts for workplace safety and health violations pursuant to the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

OSHA Penalties Increase for 2024

As of January 15, 2024, OSHA may assess larger maximum (and minimum) civil penalties for employer safety violations. The maximum civil penalty for a willful or repeat violation increased to $161,323.

OSHA Penalties for Safety Violations Rise for 2020

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced increased civil penalties for violations of 29 CFR work safety programs.
