OSHA published a Final Rule to increase its civil penalty amounts pursuant to the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015, effective January 15, 2025. Civil penalties assessed by OSHA after that date will use the new, higher amounts.

The maximum civil penalty for a willful or repeat violation by an employer increased from $161,323 to $165,514. OSHA boosted the minimum price tag for a willful violation from $11,524 to $11,823.

Violations labeled as serious, other-than-serious, “failure to abate,” or “failure to post,” were increased from $16,131 to $16,550.
