Every day, facilities across the US receive Notices of Violation from US EPA for alleged noncompliance with a wide variety of programs like the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, chemical management and reporting regulations (TSCA, EPCRA, CERCLA, etc.), hazardous waste management and disposal standards (RCRA), and much more.
 
For the second time in six months, EPA last month raised its fines for noncompliance with major environmental programs. How much: $3.5 million 

A Delaware company will pay a $1.3 million dollar fine and $2.2 million in restitution to the city of Wilmington after being sentenced for criminal violations of the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

Shipping hazardous wasteAccording to US EPA’s press release, the company failed to take representative samples to prove compliance with its wastewater discharge permit under the Clean Water Act. The company, EPA says, tampered with monitoring equipment and methods to render the results inaccurate. In addition, the company transported hazardous waste without a Hazardous Waste Manifest required under RCRA. The waste contained chemicals including benzene, barium, chromium, cadmium, lead, PCE and TCE.

How much: $385,000

In a proposed consent decree published to the Federal Register on February 2, 2017, the US Department of Justice announced a $385,000 civil penalty for a life sciences company for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act and Clean Water Act permit provisions.
