In a memo to Regional OSHA Administrators regarding the new permissible exposure limit (PEL) standards for respirable crystalline silica, the Agency stated its plan to “assist employers who are making good-faith efforts to meet the new standard’s requirements.”

At a June 5 Board meeting, the California State Water Board proposed bolstering California’s Underground Storage Tank program requirements to bring the State program up to date with revised Federal UST rules. US EPA revised its UST program (40 CFR 280) in July 2015. The new EPA UST requirements take full effect in October 2018.

If your company uses forklifts, also called Powered Industrial Trucks or PITs, you are subject to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules for general industry at 29 CFR 1910.178. These OSHA regulations cover a range of topics--from training drivers on safe use to design and construction standards for forklifts, labeling rules, fuel storage, and more.
US EPA on June 1 released problem formulations for each of the first ten chemicals up for risk evaluation under the revised TSCA requirements. These documents “clarify the chemical uses that EPA expects to evaluate and describe how EPA expects to conduct the evaluations.”

In May 2018, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) issued a new interpretation of the 49 CFR hazmat rules to clarify the agency’s position on package closures. In the past, PHMSA has held that “changing the size (e.g., width) of tape from that specified in the packaging test report and closure notification constitutes a change in design.“
