New Hampshire is the latest state to adopt EPA's 2016 Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, with new requirements and reliefs for generators in effect as of August 1, 2025.

Update 04/15/2024: California's Department of Toxic Substances Control submitted the generator improvements rule final rulemaking package for review on March 22, 2024. If approved, the GIR will become effective in California starting July 1, 2024.

31 cars derailed from a 70-car train carrying hazardous materials approximately 60 miles from Fargo, North Dakota. This comes less than two months after the derailment and large chemical release in Ohio.
