Coal Company to Pay $900,000 for Alleged Clean Water Act Violations
A coal company with mining and processing facilities in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia has to pay a $900,000 civil penalty to resolve US EPA allegations that the company violated the Clean Water Act.

Baltimore Steel Galvanizer to Pay $60K for Hazardous Waste Tank Violations
A steel galvanizer in Maryland will pay $60,000 to settle allegations it mismanaged a tank of hazardous waste at its Baltimore facility in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). According to US EPA, the facility’s violations centered on spent hydrochloric acid stored in a tank on site.

Delivery Company to Pay DTSC $3.3M for Violations of California Hazardous Waste Law
In a settlement reached with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), a major US delivery company will pay $3,357,975 to resolve allegations the company mishandled damaged containers and packages of hazardous materials.

EPA Raises Civil Penalties for Environmental Noncompliance
In the Federal Register today, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) posted an Interim Final Rule to raise civil penalties for violations of environmental law and EPA regulations. Penalties are being raised to match inflation as mandated under the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990.

Brewery Fined $2.8 Million for Clean Water Act Violations
In a June 23 press release,US EPA announced a consent decree between EPA, the US Department of Justice, and a beer brewer that operates two large-scale breweries in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. According to the press release, the brewer allegedly violated the Clean Water Act by discharging industrial waste to municipal publicly owned treatment works (POTWs).

PHMSA Raises Hazmat Civil Penalties
In the Federal Register today, the US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) posted an Interim Final Rule to raise the maximum and minimum civil penalties for violations of Federal hazardous materials regulations, law, special permits, and approvals.
