New Report Details 25 Years of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions
On February 22, US EPA announced the release of a public draft inventory report of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the United States from 1990 to 2014.Greenhouses gases are one of the major focuses of US EPA’s enforcement of the Clean Air Act. EPA requires industrial facilities that emit specific pollutants to report through the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program, or GHGRP.

EPA Announces Enforcement Initiatives for Next 3 Years
This week, US EPA announced its National Enforcement Initiatives (NEIs) for fiscal years 2017–2019. Every three years, EPA sets these initiatives in order to reinforce the work the Agency does to regulate the release of pollutants into the environment. The NEIs reflect areas of environmental regulation where there is significant non-compliance with the law.2/19/2016
OSHA GHS Guidance: Using 'Weight of Evidence' to Classify Hazards
When classifying hazards under GHS, the available health and safety data may be too complex or conflicting to result in a single classification. When this happens, the manufacturer, importer, or employer should use an approach known as “weight of evidence” (WoE) to determine the level of hazard. OSHA has released guidance on using the WoE method, and is now seeking public comments on the document.2/16/2016
The 4 Types of Hazardous Waste Shipments
Under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a “hazardous waste” as a solid waste that exhibits specific characteristics or is described on a list. EPA Issues New TSCA Significant New Use Rules for 3 Chemical Substances
In a today’s Federal Register, US EPA finalized Significant New Use Rules for three chemical substances. The specific chemical substances covered in this EPA Final Rule are three very long chain chlorinated paraffins (vLCCPs) substances covered under PMNs P-12-539, P-13-107, and P-13-109.2/11/2016

In a February 11 press release, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a proposed $455,000 civil penalty against a freight carrier for alleged violations of hazardous materials shipping regulations.2/10/2016
Supreme Court Stays EPA's Clean Power Plan
In response to appeals from both states and industry advocates, the US Supreme Court yesterday issued a stay on EPA’s Clean Power Plan in a 5–4 decision. This is the latest hurdle for the long-delayed implementation of new air quality standards for carbon dioxide (CO2) from electricity generators. A “stay” in this case means the US EPA is prevented from implementing or enforcing its Clean Power Plan, pending the outcome of litigation that challenges the Rule’s legality.2/9/2016
