EPA Enforcement Roundup: Week of 9/5
In this week’s EPA Enforcement Roundup, the former owner of a Cleveland electro-plating facility is wanted for allegedly drilling holes in tanks of hazardous chemicals in an effort to sabotage the plant. Also, NYC will pay EPA for CERCLA hazardous substance cleanup, and a Massachusetts meat facility will pay six figures for Clean Air Act and EPCRA violations.

Are Employers Required to Cover Costs of Voluntary Respirator Use?
If the level of air contaminants in the workplace is irritating, but not dangerously high, employees may choose to wear respirators even when not required. Even when respirator use is completely voluntary, employers and employees still must follow OSHA rules to ensure that respirators are used properly.

Explosion Risk Prompts Evacuation Near Texas Chemical Plant
UPDATE 08/31/17: Early this morning, emergency crews reported black smoke and fire at the Arkema organic peroxides plant in Crosby, TX. Those in the 1.5 mile evacuation area are being warned to stay away, as the risk of additoinal explosions and fires remains. Read Arkema's official statement here.

Spring 2017 Unified Regulatory Agenda Released
Last week, the Federal government released its semiannual update on regulatory actions to be finalized, proposed, or withdrawn in the coming months. Officially titled the “Current Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions” and released twice per year, the report looks a little different this time around.
