OSHA Launches Injury and Illness E-Reporting Portal
As of August 1, a new OSHA Injury Tracking Application is available to help employers meet their obligations for electronic reporting of injury and illness data. Employers covered under this new requirement have until December 1, 2017 to submit data from OSHA Forms 300 and/or 300A.

Tragic Confined Space Deaths Lead to 10 Serious OSHA Violations
Three workers died tragically in January in a workplace accident involving a confined space and toxic gas. Now, the utility company and the contractor that employed the workers face $119,500 in penalties for ten serious OSHA safety violations.

OSHA Proposes Delay to New Injury and Illness E-Reporting Rule
As hinted at last month on OSHA’s website, the Agency this week proposed extending the deadline for employers to electronically submit injury and illness data recorded on OSHA Form 300A for the year 2016. The new proposed deadline for employers to submit 2016 Form 300A data using the new electronic system is December 1, 2017.

OSHA May Revoke Some Parts of Its Beryllium Final Rule
OSHA this week proposed revoking the “ancillary provisions” for the construction and shipyard sectors adopted in a January 2017 Final Rule to revise the beryllium workplace exposure standard. OSHA will not revoke the new, lower permissible exposure limits (PELs) for beryllium and beryllium compounds.

OSHA Safety Rules for Grain Handling Facilities
Grain elevators are one type of “grain handling facility” for which OSHA maintains specific work safety requirements in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations (29 CFR). Others include feed mills, flour mills, rice mills, pelletizing plants, and dry corn mills.

OSHA and Cal/OSHA Update Operational Enforcement Agreement
OSHA announced on June 2 a revised Operational Status Agreement between the Federal agency and California’s OSHA State Plan. Under the updated operational agreement, Federal OSHA “gains coverage of private and tribal employers on US-government recognized Native American reservations and trust lands.”

PHMSA and OSHA Prepare for UN GHS and Hazmat Meetings
To prepare for upcoming meetings at the UN, PHMSA and OSHA invite interested parties to attend public meetings on June 20 at the US Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, D.C. A dial-in teleconference will also be available, details for which can be found toward the end of this Federal Register notice.

OSHA to Delay Injury and Illness e-Reporting for Employers
From OSHA's website: “OSHA is not accepting electronic submissions of injury and illness logs at this time, and intends to propose extending the July 1, 2017 date by which certain employers are required to submit the information from their completed 2016 Form 300A electronically.”

OSHA Rescinds Inspection Interpretation for Non-Union Sites
As of April 27, 2017, OSHA has rescinded an interpretation letter issued in 2013 that allowed a non-employee who is “affiliated with a union” or with a “community organization” to accompany OSHA during walk-arounds at non-union worksites.
