NJ Chemical Leak Results in Two Injuries and a Shelter-in-Place Order
Approximately 200 gallons of titanium tetrachloride were accidentally released at a plastics refining facility in Edison, NJ. Town officials issued an emergency shelter-in-place order and two individuals at a nearby business reported respiratory complications.

EPA Announces $11.5 Million Cleanup Plan for Byram, NJ Dump Site
EPA officials have announced an $11.5 million proposal to address hazardous waste contamination at the Mansfield Trail Dump Superfund Site in Byram, NJ. These cleanup initiatives include a cap on former dump areas, treatment of contaminated groundwater, and removal of contaminated soil with assistance from local officials.

1 Month Later: Cleanup Slowing Down After NJ Chlorine Plant Fire
The Kearny Fire Department released a statement on June 6 outlining plans to begin site remediation on June 11. This would signal that there is no longer an active threat to public health, and any cleanup that is still underway has been contained.

Massive Explosions at Largest Oil Refinery on East Coast Shake Philly and NJ Homes
A large, three-part explosion at an oil refinery in South Philadelphia caused massive balls of fire to shoot into the sky and homes to shake in Delaware County, PA and South Jersey. An unintentional release of hydrocarbon vapors is thought to have partially caused the explosion, though it is currently under investigation.
