January 24, 2017—Pending further review, US DOT withdraws Final Rule HM 215N, which aimed to harmonized the 49 CFR regulations with international requirements. This included revised standards for shipping lithium batteries.

December 1, 2016FedEx and UPS have announced new restrictions for lithium battery air shipments under UN 3480 and 3090.

June 29, 2016—PHMSA raises civil penalties for violations of hazmat regulations, including training rules.

February 22, 2016—ICAO bans shipments of lithium-ion batteries (UN 3480) as cargo on passenger aircraft.

January 16, 2016—IATA posts Addendum I to the 57th edition DGR, including major changes for lithium battery shippers mandatory April 1, 2016

January 1, 2016—Compliance with IATA's 57th edition Dangerous Goods Regulations(DGR)-including updated standards for shipping lithium batteries by air—is now mandatory
 

March 11, 2016—IATA updates its lithium battery guidance document for air shippers to reflect new requirements mandatory April 1, 2016

August 7, 2015—New US DOT rules for shipping lithium batteries are now mandatory
