PHMSA Withdraws Flammable Liquids Wetlines Proposal
In the Federal Register today, the US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) officially withdrew its proposed rulemaking to prohibit flammable liquids in external product piping on DOT specification cargo tank motor vehicles (CTMV) in transportation. When carrying product, the lines or hoses used to load or unload a CTMV are called “wetlines.” If not protected, wetlines may be exposed to a collision in transport.

PHMSA Denies Appeals to New Class 3 Rail Rules
In the November 18, 2015, Federal Register, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) officially responded to appeals from hazmat, chemical, and railroad industry groups regarding the May 2015 Final Rule to enhance tank car standards and operational controls for trains carrying Class 3 flammable liquids.

USPS Revises Rules for Lithium Battery Mail Shipments
On Monday, January 26, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will publish revised standards for shipping lithium batteries in the mail by ground and air. Notification of the revised lithium battery rules will appear in the Federal Register and the new standards will be published as a revision to USPS Publication 52, Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail.
