EPA On Track for 2030 ODS Phase Out
The Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed on September 16, 1987 and has been ratified by 197 parties (all member states of the United Nations, as well as Niue, the Cook Islands, the Holy See, and the European Union), making it the most universally adopted UN treaty or protocol in history.2/7/2019
EPA Raises Penalties for Environmental Noncompliance
US EPA published a Final Rule on February 6, 2019 to raise civil penalties for noncompliance with environmental regulations. The new penalty figures apply to all violations that occur(ed) after November 2, 2015 and for which penalties are assessed on or after February 6, 2019.2/1/2019
EPA Developing Self-audit Policy for New Oil and Gas Owners
EPA is developing a new Clean Air Act audit policy that would give new owners of oil and natural gas exploration and production facilities nine months to self-inspect their operations, disclose violations to EPA, and correct any violations they find.1/10/2019
New Finding for Mercury Air Toxics Proposed by EPA
US EPA closed out 2018 with a proposal to revise its Supplemental Cost Finding for the 2012 Mercury Air Toxics Standards (MATS) Final Rule. In it, the Agency states that it is not “appropriate and necessary” to regulate hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions from coal- or oil-fired electricity generating units (EGUs).6/4/2018
EPA to Rescind Parts of New Risk Management Plan Rules
EPA will rescind some new chemical Risk Management Plan requirements for chemical facitlies promulgated in response to an April 2013 ammonium nitrate explosion in West, Texas that killed fifteen, injured 160, and damaged or destroyed 150 buildings.
