New Hazmat Limited Quantity Exception Effective Feb. 22
In January, US DOT gave hazmat shippers more flexibility by incorporating 96 hazmat special permits into the text of the Hazardous Materials Regualtions (HMR). In doing so, it allowed all hazmat shippers to capitalize on exceptions and reliefs previously reserved for those approved to use these special permits.

EPA Proposes Greenhouse Gas Reporting Changes for Oil and Gas Industry
In the Federal Register on January 29, 2016, US EPA proposed a rule to revise the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) requirements and confidentiality determinations for the petroleum and natural gas systems source category.

Stormwater Violations Cost Manufacturer $145,000
A Fairbury, NE manufacturing facility will pay $145,000 to resolve alleged violations of the US EPA’s Clean Water Act, according to a press release from EPA Region 7. The violations stem from stormwater discharge of cadmium, cooper, lead, nickel, and zinc in excess of permit limits.

PHMSA Announces Hazardous Materials R&D Public Forum
In today's Federal Register, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (PHMSA OHMS) announced they will host a public meeting on March 23 and 24 to brief the public on recently completed hazardous materials projects and PHMSA’s plans for future projects and research.

Agribusiness Firm to Pay $899,000 to Settle Clean Air Act Violations
A major agribusiness firm will pay $899,000 in civil penalties and spend $42 million on facility upgrades to resolve allegations that it violated the Clean Air Act when it made modifications to five of its sulfuric acid plants, EPA reported last month.

ICAO Panel Recommends Ban on Lithium Battery Shipments on Passenger Aircraft
The Associated Press reports that on Wednesday, January 27, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) air navigation commission officially recommended an outright ban on rechargeable lithium batteries transported as cargo on passenger aircraft.
