EPA to Set New MCLs for PFOA and PFOS
Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced plans to set maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for two toxic chemicals, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), under authority granted to the Agency by the Safe Drinking Water Act.

California to Update Underground Storage Tank Program
At a June 5 Board meeting, the California State Water Board proposed bolstering California’s Underground Storage Tank program requirements to bring the State program up to date with revised Federal UST rules. US EPA revised its UST program (40 CFR 280) in July 2015. The new EPA UST requirements take full effect in October 2018.

EPA to Rescind Parts of New Risk Management Plan Rules
EPA will rescind some new chemical Risk Management Plan requirements for chemical facitlies promulgated in response to an April 2013 ammonium nitrate explosion in West, Texas that killed fifteen, injured 160, and damaged or destroyed 150 buildings.

Today, May 22, 2018, EPA’s revised certified pesticide applicator regulations officially take effect, after some revisions and delays. To protect both workers and the public, EPA requires commercial pesticide applicators to have practical knowledge about the products they use, potential risks, and core safety principles.

EPA Proposes New Rules for Pivotal Regulatory Science
In the Federal Register on April 30, US EPA proposed a rule to require “pivotal regulatory science” data used for regulatory decision-making be available to the public “in a manner sufficient for independent validation.”
