Posted on 4/20/2018 by Roger Marks

For alleged OSHA safety violations, a New Jersey plastics company now faces more than $400,000 in fines. According to OSHA’s inspection report, the Agency uncovered fourteen violations of OSHA’s safety standards, including three willful violations and eleven serious violations.

Did you know? The BLS now estimates that on-the-job injuries cost US employers $1 billion per week. Protect your team with reliable, up-to-date safety training on the latest OSHA standards.

The largest penalties stem from the “willful” violations, which include:

  $99,770 for Powered industrial trucks (forklift) violations;
  • $116,402 for general machine requirements violations; and
  • $116, 402 for lockout/tagout violations.
Additional OSHA Standards cited include those for employee eye and face protection, materials handling, rules for exit routes, and fixed ladders, scaffolding, and others.

OSHA Inspections and Civil Penalties

OSHA recently raised penalties for employer work safety violations. In June 2016, the Agency hiked penalties nearly 80% to account for inflation, then raised penalties again, by an additional 2%, in January 2018.
